Later today, artist Zefrey Throwell intends to turn the cacophony of our everyday into melody. Entropy Symphony: Movement III, or the 1000 Car Horn Symphony, will transform our favorite instrument of frustration into one part of a citywide symphony. During peak rush hour tomorrow (6:00−6:05 PM), participate by playing your car horn or bend your ear to the sounds of other horns and honks singing out all throughout the city.
For Entropy Symphony: Movement III, Throwell partnered with LAND (Los Angeles Nomadic Division), a public art initiative that uses Los Angeles and beyond as its canvas. If you’re interested in participating, send LAND an e-mail with your car model and year, and you’ll be assigned a score to match your car’s pitch. Also, let them know where you and your automobile plan to be at 6 PM.
If you do choose to participate, go ahead and record yourself. Hopefully, something can later be synthesized to document our citywide performance.
Our daily commutes needn’t be tiresome, and the car horn need not only respond to frustration, impatience, and anger. Join in the festivity (or catharsis) as we unite our automotive voices into a greater Los Angeles symphony.
