This past weekend, we stumbled into the Hollywood Rolling Greens after brunch to see what it was all about. We had literally passed the place what feels like seven thousand times but we never actually went in there. The place is full of succulents, great books, nice gifty items, and a piece of art Bobby shared on Twitter: 3000 teabags dipped in paint.
The piece is called Tea Sunburst and is housed in the homewares room of the store, a section that you could very easily miss but that you have to check out (great books, candles, kitchen and home accessories, etc.). The bags are all hung individually, strung together by their strings and staples, creating a “summer sunburst installation.” The bags linger in and out of light yellows to dark reds to rich browns and sounds kind of silly but is really cool (and potentially easily imitable, should you feel particularly crafty).
From doing a little online legwork, the piece looks like it has been on display since at least last April. It also appears to be on sale for three thousand dollars, leaving each teabag at a dollar each *if there really are three thousand of them). Definitely stop by Rolling Green to see it for yourself and poke around the rest of the store as well. I mean, they did win the Retailer Excellence Award in Visual Merchandising: the store definitely one of the best shopping experiences in the city.
