Evan Orensten may very well be responsible for everything you think is cool right now and have thought was cool for the past nine or so years. Evan along with Josh Rubin are the guys behind Cool Hunting, your one stop shop for all things cool. Based in New York, Evan and Josh are always traveling all over the world, checking with reports from all over the world. Very recently, Evan was here for a little work and we caught up with him for a quick lunch where we asked him about his work, his relationship with Los Angeles, and what he thinks about our beloved city.
What brings you to Los Angeles?
I’m in town to test drive the new Fisker Karma, a new luxury plug-in hybrid car. They’re based in Anaheim and the drive is around LA and Malibu.
How long were you in town?
This is a really quick trip, just in for 36 hours. Not long enough…
What neighborhood did you stay in? What were your thoughts on that part of town?
I guess it’s Beverly Hills adjacent? There’s not much going on around here, but it’s, well, adjacent to a lot of good places, like Urth Caffe, one of my favorites in town.
How many times have you visited Los Angeles? What do you think of the city?
I love visiting LA and make it out here four or five times a year, and I’ve probably been here at least fifty or sixty times. It’s always one of my favorite places to visit, especially lately. There is some really great food here, interesting restaurants, some great art, innovative stores. The pace of all of this innovation has noticeably increased, so LA is on my radar more than ever. We have several contributors here who help ensure we’re able to cover all the goodness.
What was the best part of your trip?
A pit stop at The Trails in Griffith Park for lavender shortbread cookies is always a highlight. And I found an amazing vintage safari jacket at Buster, a shop within Fantasy Lighting on Melrose. Driving the Fisker Karma around town and watching everyone’s reaction was also a highlight.
