In The Make is a cool little site that features weekly interviews with artists and designers on the West Coast, namely from the Bay area. The site is a collaboration between writer Nikki Grattan and photographer Klea McKenna. The two very recently have made the trek down South to Los Angeles and we wanted to point out their work as it’s very, very good.
The two have a great knack for sharing super quick bites of the lives of artists and definitely know how to edit down the experience of visiting and speaking with an artist. In this new current trend of visiting artists and editorializing the experience, Klea and Nikki are certainly one of our favorites because they capitalize on the less is more idea, their visits being the perfect amount of everything to keep visitors satisfied. Also, they’re interviewing tons of artists we’ve never heard of and the photos are super great.
Anyway, they were down here for a week and seem like they had a lot of fun, courtesy of their new sponsors liveBooks. They visited twelve artists while here and stopped at some great art destinations, like James Turrell’s Dividing The Light in Pomona. They visited artists like Christopher Russell, Lia Halloran, Rebecca Morris, Claude Collins-Stracensky, and Amir Fallah, among others. They trace from Silver Lake to Downtown and Highland Park and Glassell Park and more.
Check out photos from some of our favorite LA visits they made here and check in with them over the next few weeks for more features on local artists. These girls are ones to watch, even if they aren’t necessarily always in our part of town.
