Remember that A+D fashion week show? Lots of really rad local creatives tied their design and art work into fashion, colliding the two for something totally perfect for A+D. One of the concepts from the show that is very, very Los Angeles has made its way from the show to–potentially–your wrists: landscape architecture firm Mia Lehrer + Associates‘s bracelet My City My River.
The firm led by Lehrer are the makers of various public spaces and parks in town from the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel to the gorgeous Silver Lake Library to being the folks behind the buzzed about LA River Revitalization Master Plan. To honor the last mentioned project and give the city a wearable gift, they’ve created a “succession of bracelets exploring the topographical nature of the Los Angeles River”: My City My River.
“This series presents 70 sections cut through the heart of downtown LA articulating the intricate relationship between our city’s topography and the LA River channel,” they explained in a release, pointing to the form and design of the accessory mimicking the physical landscape of the LA River. “The bracelets can be worn individually or in group – they are a statement for protecting and loving our river.” The bracelets are all created from laser cut “aircraft plywood” that can have brass inserts added upon request. The series of bracelets are crazy, thin wooden bangles that not only would be a great, natural fashion statement but would likely show that, yes, you care about what is going on in the city.
We’re hoping to see this worn around town by you guys. And, since the river is so long, there are a lot of bracelets. Why not split the purchase with a friend or two and wear them out?
