We were very lucky to pick up a few special zines from Pasadena based artist Jesse Tise, who we absolutely love. His work lies somewhere between Science Fiction films and art from the late fifties and cosmic manga pieces. His work deals with little aliens, space, monsters, and (seemingly playful) wars between species.
We had written about Jesse previously and were delighted to find a few new zines and comics from him. Above is a little comic strip entitled The Goomblaah VS Zaarlak!!, which–as you can see–details a fight between the Goomblaah and Zaarlak. Although a six comic panel, we left out the final two for you to find out on Jesse’s site. You’ll also find a print of his below, along with snippets from two zines: We Come In Peace! and Space Spells.
We Come In Peace! explains itself to be a “zine about robots, aliens, and space men” with communication issues. We’ve shared two scenes from the zine that are quite funny and, of course, display these miscommunications which very well may have erupted in intergalactic war. Space Spells is below that which is a zine inspired by Flying Lotus’ album Cosmogramma. This zine is more abstract and a bit more cutting edge, as it is quite beautifully non-objective at points. The back of the zine is included as well as we believe that may be Jesse posing with a custom space mask. We’re not sure on that, but it sounds pretty cool.
