When we saw Prometheus a few weeks back, we were going absolutely crazy over it. Bobby wanted to write a review of the film; however, all of the posters were very meh. But, he ended up finding a really great fan made poster which he used for the article. The poster he found was actually by local fan made poster maker Midnight Marauder, a mysterious graphic designer who makes tons of great fake movie posters that he shares online.
Marauder’s work covers a lot of ground but focus on science fiction horror films and classic, good films that would be worthy of the Criterion treatment. His work ties extreme fandom with a great eye for graphic design. We’ve written about graphic design and movie posters before and what Marauder does is tie this sense of what the movie is with distilling it down to perfect representatives of the film. As you go through his work, you can tell that the truly fan made posters, products driven from an allegiance and love for a film. The resulting posters retain a grace that his Prometheus and Point Blank have. His takes on movies he hasn’t seen like The Dark Knight Rises seem to fall flat as they don’t retain any magic to them: they just look like manipulated press photos instead of experiential, creative posters like the rest of his pieces appear to be.
His work really takes the idea of Fake Criterions very seriously and he does an ace job at nearly all of his posters. Take a look at a few of our favorites here and you can find more from him on his Behance profile. Someone needs to hire this guy to make posters for their film!
