Matthew Wade is a local guy who seems involved in a lot of things. He makes films, he can animate, he makes music, and–most notably–he makes some pretty cool illustrations. They’re very bright and otherworldly, very often dipping into these futuristic fantasies.
He plays a lot with negative space, letting a subject exist on its own. The subjects vary incredibly, from an action to an event or to a person. As you can see, we’ve shared a variety of things he is making: there’s a flying crocodile tadpole battling a flying fox tadpole, there’s a bleeding alien guy whose essence appears to be nourishing plants, and there’s even a giraffe like woman who has a city under her hair. They’re simple enough yet, at moments, he nearly reaches high art. The above being a great example: when I first encountered the piece, I was convinced it was some Os Gemeos outtake. Wrong. Just Matthew Wade, y’all.
Wade is very talented and, as noted before, he’s into a lot of things. He’s even conquering feature film, according to the Current Illustrations section of his site. He has lots of work to check out so, duh, check it out here.
