Moving to Los Angeles is one of the great American and Hollywood tropes. You have the small town boy or girl with dreams of making it big in Hollywood working their dream job, so they pack up their car, load up any pets or family members, and hit the open road out to the Wild West. These days, you don’t see just actor or entertainer types hitting the road to Los Angeles, but more diversified creatives like fashion designers, photographers, fine artists, and even designers hitting the road as well. One of those designers is Braden Wise who documented his move out West with a series of self-initiated postcards he calls Good Day CA.
Braden had a long trip: he was coming from Minnesota all the way to Los Angeles. We’re not sure if he actually drove or not, but his pieces do function as a travelogue of sorts referencing maps and a time period when Los Angeles was becoming this sexy place to go. Braden is now in Los Angeles but has kept his project going, to chronicle things he is discovering about the town. His work landed him in this past September’s HOW Magazine, where he was named a winner of one of the best Self-Promotion Designs.
Poke around Braden’s Good Day CA site for more of his postcards and, below, take a look at a few of our favorites.
