We can all agree that wood is a great material for a home. Wood floors are great, wood walls are great, and wood exteriors are great, although they risk being the lunch of termites. I never thought I’d be writing about wood but there’s a local company that has given us two reasons to share. Timeline is a contemporary designer wood brand based in Los Angeles that are staining and painting wood in fairly unique ways and, beyond that, are presenting them online quite nicely. Their Summer 2012 Online Catalogue is great (surprising!) online experience.
To give a general overview of the brand, Timeline makes a wide variety of woods for various use and in various styles. They are experts at staining and coloring wood which is easy to discern from a quick glance through their product list. This coloring isn’t just “painting wood,” either. They have this ability to maintain a high contrast or mood of a color by doing very little. The woods look like they were found behind a barn and had been naturally weathering away for decades. New Orange, Blue Chalk, Black Black, and Tomato Peel all exemplify this idea and–I never thought I’d say it–are cause for much coveting of wood planks. They’d be perfect in my urban LA WASP dream home that I will never be able to afford.
Beyond their product being very cool, they have quite a nice website, too. Their Summer 2012 catalogue is the best display of this. It’s finely designed graphically with complimentary shapes announcing the style of the wood and also adding to the product shots. The addition of simple info pages (an example above) that mash the comfort of their product photos with slightly uneasy, contemporary layouts of words hints to their being well aware of what is happening now in the design world: whoever made this catalogue is in tune with modern design. The tiny details of their site–the use of the sexy Futura font, a simple and sleek navigation, a pink/orange half frame on the page–make their website a really nice, clean experience. Other local businesses need to take note as Timeline has executed theirs expertly.
The brand has a lot to offer and, if you’re looking to redo the floors in your home or office, I’d speak with these guys since they obviously are well versed in good design. If you haven’t already, please check out their website and take a few minutes to enjoy their Summer 2012 Online Catalogue.
