Thursday, FREECITYsupershop Supermät on Highland celebrated fashion week with a new show: BASIC GOODNESS. The store opened its doors after hours to let a small group in to see what new goodies they had for the show, which was curated by founder Nina Garduno. Inspired by “hiking journeys and Americana,” the show celebrated the brand’s trademark natural, handcrafted apparel, similar brands’ products, and ceramics, custom fragrances, bikes, and other objects from artists for sale.
BASIC GOODNESS, which refers to Tibetan spiritual teacher Chögyam Trungpa’s idea of basic goodness, shared items wrapped in “personal wholesomeness and dedication to others.” The stars of the show and shop for us were the raw and slightly unfinished ceramics there were curated by Monique van Genderen. These included cups that seemed to be melting on the shelves by Soshi Kanokohata, beautiful ceramic apple sculptures by Lisa Sitko, and “Face Jars” by Mattias Merkel-Hess and van Genderen herself.
The show will be up in the store for some time and requires you to stop by for it. Be sure to check out the new custom fragrances by Hayley of L’Oeil du Vert (which come in moonshine, mungbeans, and rice) and the always fantastic FREECITYworkshop custom bicycles (some of which you can see here). FREECITY is open everyday from 11AM to 6PM and is located on the Westside of Highland below Lexington and above Santa Monica.
