Mohawk General Store has been on top of their game recently. A few years ago, I actually really, really did not like the store. I thought it was so pretentious and totally inaccessible and that the selection of goods were slim and far too over-hyped. Now? Not at all the case. The store is practically bubbling over with exclusive, unique clothes, grooming items, magazines, lifestyle goods, and more that you can *only* find at Mohawk. Although still high priced, visiting Mohawk can now be considered the best retail therapy you can partake in. Their inventory is super unrivaled and exclusive and feels like a really niche store you’d find in San Francisco or Seattle. For example, I caved and purchased this insane, rare Gitman Brothers Vintage shirt because it was just so unique and *only* sold at Mohawk. Another example? ReCut Supply Outwear, a new Mohawk exclusive from Angeleno Hideki Abe.
ReCut is an outwear collection composed of vintage American military fabrics. The current line, their first line, is a trio of elaborate, extremely detailed vests that are compilings of different fabrics and militaristic fashion qualities. Abe–who is in the photo above–repurposes and refashions the material to make cool, sleek vests that have large pockets and windows, pops of color and even stretchy side panels. They’re a fabric collaging of influences and crafts built into one vest.
We heard about the brand from Mohawk via e-mail. The brand is extremely legit: Abe is an LA transplant by way of Japan, where he moved from after being a “distributor of American outdoor products.” The brand is exclusively sold online from Mohawk, which fits into the store’s being progressively more and more niche (some products you can only purchase by phone!). The vests carry on this idea as they may be the only ones made: the SWQ, Pile Lined, and O-Back vests are one-of-a-kind creations well suited for the Autumnal Angeleno mane.
You can pick up ReCut online, which range from $220 to $230. We’re super excited to see where the brand goes from here as Abe is undoubtedly an expert. We’re glad they’re being sold at Mohawk too as they are really on fire right now. Be sure to stop by the store and check out more of their outwear selections here.
