Somehow we were not expecting to see so many neat new calendars released for 2013. Why is this surprising?? It’s a new year! This always happens! Yesterday we got a note from the guys who run local queer zine JIMMY that they have a calendar shot by Daniel Trese and features Ryan Heffington and his Lady Boys. While we’ve shared letterpressed and minimal time counters, JIMMY has a sexy, artsy means for you to keep track of 2013.
The calendar showcases Heffington and his Boys out in the desert basically having a ball with some very feisty desert spirits. The calendar is composed of twelve posters, all of which are elegant, often gender bending black-and-white shots. Trese does a super great job distilling the soul of the desert and the movement from Heffington and company’s vibrant style. Out of all the new calendars being released, this is the one that we want to dive into like a Reading Rainbow book in order to participate in all the fun being had month to month.
The calendar is out today and the JIMMY folks are actually having a big launch party tonight at monthly queer dance party CAFETERIA. This (new to us) part happens every second Tuesday at Short Stop in Echo Park and will include a performance by Heffington and two of his special Lady Boys, Hunter Hamilton and Danny Dolan. You can grab the calendar tonight at a *special* release party price. Otherwise, you’ll just have to catch it online at its regular price.
If you cannot make it tonight or simply cannot get enough of what JIMMY, Trese, Heffington, and more are serving for you in 2013, do not fret for they have you covered. How? Why, there’s a video trailer for the calendar that gives you a look at the moves and moments that went into the creating of the calendar. Feast on it below!
