Clover Canyon is a bold Los Angeles brand that we are kind of obsessed with. We can’t wear their clothes since they are made for ladies (and are quite pricey) but–boy–are they magnificent, graphic, pattern colliding, very now clothes. They also want to be more than just “some clothes maker” as they are making concerted and beautiful efforts to go beyond their brand: they are making art. The brand released a collaboration with artist Alexandra Grant late in 2012 that sees portions of sales going to LAXART. How fabulous is this?
The ready-to-wear collection with local Grant are based on paintings she made that deal with the self and body. “I began seeing a direct link to textiles and fantasized about the paintings becoming cloth or tapestries,” Grant says of her desire to make her work into fashion. The pieces–like Clover is known for–are collages, this group focusing on inky images and writing. The body of paintings she made are titled Century Of The Self and the collection certainly indulges in this by stating things like “love myself” and “I was born to love not to hate.”
The collaboration of a Los Angeles artist and a Los Angeles fashion label has yielded one of our favorite groups of clothes available for sale now. We’re shocked we haven’t seen more of these clothes and are crossing our fingers that we’ll see some being worn around. They’re so bright, artsy, and incredibly heady. Such a backstory! Twenty percent of proceeds go to helping LAXART so, if you are looking for new fancy and art aware clothes, you may want to go for these. You can buy them online here.
