This past weekend, we noticed a little mural South of 3rd Street on Flores Street, in an alley facing the Southside. The piece is one of three recent murals that are a collaboration between artists Chase and Bue currently on view in the city.
According to Chase’s website, the piece went up in September along with two others (one in Hollywood and one in South Central). They’ve recently been very active around town, namely Hollywood and Venice, creating a slew of new pieces that are providing a colorful and happy addition to neighborhoods. The two artists’ collaborations are all amazing, balancing Chase’s all-seeing-eyes with Bue’s crazy cast of characters. The 3rd Street mural features a giant blue, Mr. Rogers looking cat who seems to be telling a funny story about haircuts or scissors with a group of creatures, as they sit atop of a bed of eyes. Peppered all around them are Chase’s stenciled affirmations and stripes, filling out the mural quite a bit.
We’re not sure how long the piece will be up, but we trust for some time. If you’re in the 3rd Street area, stop by and see it, as it’s a nice, colorful visual break in that area.
