Apolis has been a prescence in the retail community for some time. They’re known for creating and co-creating really cool products that are high quality and high conscious (sustainable, global while also local). Last month, the local brand launched their first retail space, Common Gallery.
The store is located in the heart of the Arts District Downtown, the entrance right next to the back of Wurstküche. It’s white and clear glass façade with thin letters on the door is quite understated and a bit like a secret: you know something cool is in there–but you can’t quite tell until you enter the space. (Also, fun fact: it was designed by Scott Gustafson at Maison Orion.)
The space is quite clean and pure while being a bit ruggedly masculine, emblematic of Apolis as a brand. Oxfords, light coats, sweaters, and trousers hang on racks, as Katin + Apolis swim trunks lie underneath. The middle of the store is stage for three mannequins, who tie articles of clothing together demanding that you take out your wallet and have someone package up the goods in your size (in their Expedition Duffle).
Lining the back wall of the store are a few of their co-op manufactured items, products of teaming with global small businesses to create goods. A few include beautiful leather sandals, a large market bag, a comfortable Rapha sweater, and even a collaborative bag with Seattle’s Filson. Although these items are highlighted in the back of the store, many more cooperative goods are peppered into racks and shelves (including a Heritage bag, a Sierra Designs collab, and Patagonia coats).
While there, be on the lookout for many little things under racks and on shelves that would make great gifts for the holiday season: leather luggage tags, candles, lighters, belts, water bottles, ties, and bandanas. Definitely stop by if you are in the market for little (super nice) things to give friends and family this holiday season.
The store is Apolis’ first “regionally branded space” where they will be hosting “advocate keynotes, collection releases, gallery exhibitions, and films.” On that note, this Friday they will be having a sample sale in the space. Be sure to stop by–you will most certainly fall in love it.
